Energems Great Tasting Energy Review

Saturday, December 21, 2013
Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Product Description
Bite-sized, energy supplement in the form of a hard coated gem made with real milk chocolate, B Vitamins, caffeine and a proprietary energy blend.
Enhance memory, focus and concentration. There are 3 servings (9 gems) per box. A single serving  (3 gems) has the caffeine equivalent of a cup of coffee. Each gem has only 15 calories and less than 1 gram of fat.  Energems’ unique delivery system allows consumers to conveniently and discretely consume the appropriate amount of energy as needed, when needed.

As a fifty-something post menopausal woman, I never have enough energy. I stay tired all the time and I don't really like to drink energy shots. I was excited when I recently got the chance to try a new product. When I received my Energems, I wasn't sure what to expect. Each box comes with about 9 pieces of candy-like drops in three different flavors. Three pieces equal one cup of coffee. Because I'm always a little leery of new products, I only ate one to see what the effects would be. I noticed I was a little jumpy and also realized I couldn't use the Energems along with caffeine products. Alone they seem to work fine. I had a minimum amount of energy throughout the day after I took three.

Energems comes in three delicious flavors: chocolate, mint, and peanut butter. I have to say peanut butter is my favorite. You can learn more about Energems or purchase a trio pack on the Energems website.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

"Qi Orthopedic Pillow" Review #QVCgifts

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

I have to say, I was excited to try the Qi Orthopedic Pillow because I sit all day and my lower back kills me, but I was a little disappointed because I had to constantly adjust my pillow to get it to work properly.

I received these instructions with my pillow:
1. For the first time you try it, you only need to give it 3 puffs. After you have tried it with only 3 puffs and have got a sense whether the 3 puffs is too much or too little for you, you can reduce or increase accordingly. With 2-3 trials (within 2-3 minutes), most people have been able to find their most comfortable setting. Once you have found your best setting, you hardly ever need to change it if you continue to use it in the same chair.

2. if you take it to a different seat or chair, you may need to readjust the pillow to suit your best comfort, since different seat or chair often required different levels of support. This is why it is critical that your back support needs to adapt to both your body and your chair, instead of the other way around. And this is one of the things that Qi Orthopedic Pillow does the best.

As a rule of thumb, the tighter the seat/chair, the lower the inflation, such as in car seat; and the more spacious the seat/chair, the higher level of inflation, such as on couch, armchair, sofa or bed.

3. To inflate the pillow, all one needs to do is to twist (counter-clock wise) open the cap (the cap will stay on as opposed to fall off of the valve - a security feature), wrap your index finger and thumb around the cap and PULL the pillow up a little bit with these same two fingers, and place your lips on the adjustment valve via your fingers and blow 3 puffs of air into it, and then twist close the cap (clock wise). That's all there is to it.

The only thing I would change is the inflation method. After a few uses, I did finally adjust to my Qi Orthopedic Pillow and would recommend its use.

Product Description
How does QiPillow differ from ordinary pillows?
-          In a word: support. QiPillow is far more than an ordinary pillow. It provides scientifically tested orthopedic back support for people of all shapes and sizes.
-          The QiPillow has been proven in a third party clinical study to help 91% of back pain sufferers relieve their back stiffness, pain and fatigue, and improve their sitting posture and comfort.
-          Like a Sleep Number bed, it uses an air controlled orthopedic core to provide the much needed dynamic and individualized support to your back.
-          Unlike ordinary pillows, QiPillow does not collapse under bodyweight and will help you to maintain the correct posture.
-          With QiPillow, your back support will always adjust to your body, seat and comfort, instead of the other way round.  There is nothing quite like it in the world.

Why do your readers need to pay attention to their back health?
-          According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 30% of American adults are afflicted by low back pain. That means if you know three people, one of them is probably in pain.  Americans spend $200 billion a year treating back pain.
-          According to the Workers Safety and Insurance Board, simply sitting – without proper support -- is the leading cause for back pain, second only to heavy weight lifting.
-          Unsupported sitting is damaging your back each time you sit, at work, at home, in cars. QiPillow corrects that by providing dynamic support to your back.

Why is dynamic support important to your readers?
-          Because it responds to what our body does naturally. As soon as we sit still for twenty minutes, the deep stabilizing muscles in our back will begin to tense up, which can often lead to stiffness, pain and fatigue in the back.
-          To prevent these issues, you must keep you back in motion even though you are sitting

Why is it important for your pillow not to collapse under your bodyweight?
-          Even though you are unaware of it, your lower back will start to slouch, as soon as a pillow collapses. That leads to extra pressure on the lumbar spine, which then ultimately, leads to back pain. The QiPillow does not allow that to happen because it supports your body weight the entire time.

About QiPillow's inventor
-          Patrick Lee, a Human Spinal Biomechanics Researcher, and founder of an international company that manufactures  medical devices. Trained in Switzerland and Germany.  Lived and worked in 6 countries on 3 continents.
-          Patrick and his team have helped hundreds of thousands of back pain sufferers find relief
-          QiPillow is the result of 3 years of hard work by Patrick Lee and his team
-          Rave reviews by users who notice a difference immediately.

#NHBPM: Nov. 9: Just admit It Racism is Alive and Well in the South

Saturday, November 9, 2013

#NHBPM: Nov. 9: Just admit it

It’s taboo. Write about something that people do but don’t like to talk about or won’t admit to doing.

I'm from the South and where I live most people are still racist and rednecks. Nobody will admit to this fact, but it a sad truth. The "N" word is standard issue where I live. I hate to admit that a lot of people I know still use the word. Nobody wants to talk about it, but it's there in the open spaces of Southern society. Nobody will admit they say the word, but they do. Although, a lot of Southerners are out in the open about their feelings, some still keep it hidden within the confines of their homes. If you ask most Southerns, they won't admit to being racist, but here in the deep South where I'm from it's the norm.

I do have to admit, I'm not a racist, but growing up I probably said the "N" word without realizing what I was saying. I can't stand the word and think it's ignorant for people to use it whether white or black.

Make a list of 3 favorite quotes

Today's challenge is to make a list of my 3 favorite quotes. That's easy because I'm a big Khalil Gibran fan.

1. "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." Khalil Gibran
2. "Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens." Khalil Gibran
3. "March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life's path." Khalil Gibran

#NHBPM: Nov. 7: Mary Poppins Carpet Bag

Write about what’s in your bag/purse/backpack every day- and why!

Today's challenge is to write about what's in my purse. Well, I don't like toting a purse around, because I tend to collect too much junk. Right now my purse is filled with a lot of papers, hand sanitizer, lotion, gluten-free cooking bars, several ink pens, and a travel clock.

Most of the items in my purse are for work. I work in an unhealthy environment where germs run rampant. Because I work 10 hours a day I have to have my clock to keep up with the time and my snacks to get me through the day. The contents of my purse never really change. I guess I'm kinda of boring in the purse department.

#NHBPM Nov. 6: Say WHAT?!
What’s the most ridiculous thing you've heard about your health condition? Was there any context? What did you think at the time you heard it – and what do you think of it now?

I have fibromyalgia and the most ridiculous things I keep hearing about my disease is "it's all in your head". People can say some of the stupidest things. If you don't look sick, then you must not be sick or you don't look like you're in pain.

Because people don't understand fibromyalgia it hurts when I hear these things. If they could only go one day on my shoes then they would understand and not judge.

#NHBPM Nov. 5: Election Day! Meet President Debra Elliott

Tuesday, November 5, 2013
I don't really like to discuss politics on my blog, but when today's #NHBPM topic came up, I wanted to share my thoughts.

#NHBPM Nov. 5: Election Day!
Votes are in-you won! If you got elected President, what are the 3 changes you would make to healthcare?

Already in my state almost 90,000 people have lost their health coverage because of ObamaCare and thousands are uninsured(including myself). It's a tragedy and in reality I wish I were president.

These are my 3 changes to healthcare:

1. I would make health care affordable to all but not at the expense of others. There are ways to have affordable healthcare within all the hoopla surrounding the current bill. Every American does deserve affordable healthcare but when you start threatening people or people lose their insurance it isn't something for all the people. Our country was built on the premise of 'We the People'. Healthcare reform needs to have the voice of all the people.

2. Mammograms would be free. It's important to me that all women have the opportunity to get a mammogram. Live is fragile and if one woman's life can be saved because of a mammogram, then the test should be free.

3. Better research/tests for silent killers of women. Ovarian cancer is a silent killer and many women don't know they have it until it's too late. If research and testing were better and of lower cost then maybe women's lives could be saved.

I'm not one to get on my soapbox on my blog, but in reality changes to healthcare do need to be made. Women do need better healthcare and those women who can't afford healthcare need the most help.

#NHBPM Nov. 4: Training Wheels

#NHBPM Nov. 4: Training Wheels
Write about a time your health condition forced you to grow up and take the training wheels off (so to speak).

Because I suffer from fibromyalgia, I always walk around with training wheels on, but a few months ago I was forced to take off my training wheels and grow up. My youngest daughter passed away in May and my life as I knew it(training wheels and all) changed. I could not longer focus on me or my pain. I had to focus on my daughter. She was very ill and dying. I had to grow up and take care of her regardless of my chronic daily pain. For five weeks I rode by "bicycle" without the use of training wheels. I had to learn to forget my pain and give my child all the attention she needed. I found the strength to get through the days without bitching or complaining about me. My painful world disappeared. I rode through five weeks without training wheels and didn't think about myself. I wrapped my pain up and threw it away. It was difficult to take the training wheels off for 5 weeks, but when you have to grow up and do what's needed the training wheels come off.

#NHBPM Nov 3: My Mascot!
Give your condition, community, or self a mascot. Who is it? What do they represent? What is their battle cry?

Today is day 3 of #NHBPM and the challenge is to create a mascot that represents what I stand for.

For my mascot I've chosen Xena Warrior Princess. Xena kicks butt and defeats the enemy. These are two things I have a hard time doing with my condition (fibromyalgia). There are some days I can't even get out of bed. There are days I wish I were Xena, I could kick butt and defeat the enemy.

With one swift swing of her mighty sword and her hellacious battle cry fibromyalgia would be defeated.

#NHBPM Nov. 2: Little Engine Post- I Think I Can...I Know I Can

Saturday, November 2, 2013

For Day 2 of #NHBPM we're challenged to write 3 lines that each start with “I think I can…”
Then write 3 lines that start with "I know I can..."

Having fibromyalgia on top on chronic pain makes my days a challenge, but I try everyday to get through what it will bring.

I think I can do my best to forget the pain.
I think I can understand why this is happening to me.
I think I can get through another day.

I know I can be strong.
I know I can not let my condition control my life.
I know I can help others who are like me.

Prevent Blindness America Launches “See Jane See”

New Online Educational Resource and Awareness Campaign Just For Women

It’s a fact: women are at significantly greater risk of blindness or visual impairment than men.  This is according to the 2012 study:  Vision Problems in the US ( which revealed that 66% of those experiencing blindness are women, 61% of those suffering with cataracts are women and 65% of those with Age-Related Macular Degeneration are women. What is the reason for this discrepancy between the genders and why are so few talking about it?  The causes for these conditions, including age, hormonal factors and certain autoimmune diseases, are often very different for women than for men and the precautions and treatments may differ as well.

On October 15, Prevent Blindness America (PBA) addressed these issues with the launch of “See Jane See – Women’s Healthy Eyes Now” an educational campaign dedicated solely to women’s vision health.  See Jane See and the dedicated website,  will offer free information and downloadable tip sheets created specifically for women on a variety of issues across the age spectrum such as Dry Eye, Cosmetics Safety, Pregnancy, Vision and Nutritional Supplements, and age-related eye disease.  Information will also include symptoms, causes and treatment options for a variety of conditions.

Moving swiftly into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the award-winning, provocative, raw and touching documentary BEAUTY AND THE BREAST gives viewers a behind the scenes look at nine female survivors coping with the harsh realities of breast cancer as they aim to demystify the disease and blossom in the face of adversity. Sweeping up awards at film festivals around the world, BEAUTY AND THE BREAST sets out to empower and inspire women to feel feminine and sexy in their own skin. YOU CAN WATCH BEAUTY AND THE BREAST  ON DEMAND WITH ALL MAJOR CABLE PROVIDERS.

Having worked with Academy Award winning director Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy), Academy Award nominated director/producer Ridley Scott and Golden Globe award winning producer Tony Scott while also collaborating with Hollywood’s A-listers including Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland and Sir Ben Kingsley, actress and first-time director Liliana Komorowska tapped into her experiences with such highly-respected Hollywood legends to create this intimate portrait of the devastating realities of breast cancer. The full-length documentary details the complexities of all the various stages of the disease; following the patients through their spiritual, physical and emotional transformations as they bare their souls and their scars, all while striving to dismiss society’s general perception of feminine beauty and adapt to living with their mutilated bodies while still maintaining strength, grace and pride. Beauty and the Breast is not only invaluable as a testament to human resilience, but it also proves that it’s possible to reach timeless wisdom in the face of adversity.

In addition to her tireless efforts to shed light on breast cancer and its devastating effects, Komorowska is respected for the determined work of her Foundation Liliana Komorowska for the Arts in promoting her Polish cultural heritage in America. She continues her acting career in French, Polish and English while living with her husband and two children in Montreal, Canada.

The Buzz on Vibrators: History and Timeline

Thursday, October 24, 2013
Vibrators, personal massagers, sex toys – whatever you choose to call them, these buzzing products have been around long before the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon.
Vibrators are becoming more and more mainstream as women embrace self-stimulation and take ownership of their sexuality – in fact, 1 in 3 American women now admit to owning at least one vibrator and in what seems to be a new sexual revolution, personal pleasure products have made their way from the discrete shelves of sex shops to the prominent displays of c-store and grocery store retailers across the country. However, these devices were initially invented centuries ago for very different reasons.
LifeStyles Condoms has compiled data in Infographic form that reveals “The Buzzon Vibrators – data telling the unlikely history of these quietly ground-breaking vibrating devices; please find it broken out below, and we would be happy to provide a hi-res image of this infographic in its entirety.

HolyClothing Review

These insets give the dress a wonderful full Flared Hem which will put a little zip and magic into your stride. Topped off with Gypsy inspired floral/vine embroidery running head to toe.

Residents around the Country Featured in Reader’s Digest This Month for Being “Breast Cancer Heroes” #BCA

Residents around the Country Featured in Reader’s Digest This Month for Being “Breast Cancer Heroes”

Oct. 9, 2013 – Grassroots groups around the country have made it their passion and mission to give breast cancer survivors the best life possible. Reader’s Digest spoke to these breast cancer heroes in a story in the October issue and online.

Here are their stories:

The Knitters – Laughter and the staccato of clicking needles fill the air at the Tempe Yarn & Fiber shop in Arizona. It’s Friday evening, and volunteers lovingly produce colorful piles of “knitted knockers,” prostheses for women who have had mastectomies without reconstructive surgery. When put in a bra, the knockers—which are lighter and softer than silicone and plastic versions—look and feel like real breasts.
Since its inception three years ago, the group has supplied more than 2,000 knockers to women in some 40 states. The website provides patterns for do-it-yourselfers and lists groups that make and distribute the prostheses to women in need.

The Healthy Cook – Ann Ogden Gaffney is the daughter of a master baker and the granddaughter of a chef. But it took two bouts of cancer for her to learn about the therapeutic benefits of eating well through cooking and to pass that knowledge on to others. She decided to launch Cook for Your Life, a nonprofit that provides free monthly cooking classes to cancer patients and caregivers, who learn to cook an entire meal with fresh, plant-based ingredients. Five years later, in 2012, she created the website, which offers cooking videos, a nutritionist to answer questions, and a search engine that organizes recipes based on treatment, side effect, and dietary needs.

The Tattoo Artist – Vinnie Myers, 51, didn’t expect to spend his career tattooing 3-D nipples on breast cancer patients’ reconstructed breasts. He started tattooing to earn extra money as a U.S. Army medic in South Korea in the 1980s and then built up a business in his native Maryland. In 2001, a local breast surgeon first asked Myers to create the impression of real nipples on a patient after her breast cancer surgery. But it wasn’t until Myers’s younger sister was diagnosed with the disease nearly a decade later that he knew this would be his life’s work. His nipples are so lifelike that they fool the eye, which gives women who’ve had mastectomies and reconstruction an aesthetic sense of wholeness.
