An update on my daughter

To my friends and family, I wanted to let you know that my daughter Ashley Burdeaux only has 2 weeks to live. The nurse was here today and Michelle will be on morphine to help her through death. She has lost about 5 pounds and is no longer eating. Please continue to pray. I will be making arrangements this week for her Celebration of Life Service. She will be cremated and her service will be at Purpose Life Church in Trussville AL. I will post more details when the time comes. Right now it is hard for me to even think about this and my mind, body, and soul can't cope.

A Wish for My Daughter

Saturday, April 27, 2013
My mind, heart, and soul are torn. I've hesitated about writing this post. but I need to express the way I feel and get things off my mind.

My baby girl has HIV/AIDS and does not have much longer to live. She is in hospice currently. She only weighs now about 51 pounds. It saddens me to see my beautiful daughter wracked with pain and her beautiful soul dying. I'm helpless, there is nothing I can do to turn back the hands of time. She's only 27.

If you are a parent and your child comes to you and tells you they have HIV, please listen and don't judge. I didn't listen to my child 10 years ago. I judged her lifestyle, I was wrong and now my heart is breaking into a million tiny shards.

Wishes for My Daughter

I wish for you no more pain

I wish for you to dance in the rain

I wish for you peaceful sleep

I wish for you to no longer weep

I wish for you dreams sweet

I wish for you to run bare-feet

I wish for you another year
I wish for you to cry no more tears

I love you Baby Girl!

Disclosure: I received products free in exchange for this blog post. I did not receive any other compensation. All opinions are my own.

If you're not familiar with PARNEVU Hair Care Products then you're missing a chance to treat your hair and scalp to a new experience. I recently had the opportunity to try 3 different PARNEVU Hair Care Products.

I selected T-Tree Shampoo, T-Tree Break Control, and Extra-Dry Scalp Therapy. I chose the T-Tree products because I love T-Tree oil. I love the way it smells and the way it makes my hair feel. I also chose the extra-dry scalp therapy because my husband has flaky, dry scalp.

All three products worked well and I was very pleased with the results. My hair felt revived and renewed.

You can find out more about  PARNEVU Hair Care Products on FB or Twitter as well as their website.

Attention bloggers! Would you like to review Parnevu? All you need to do is fill out this form.

Disclosure: I received several different products to facilitate my review. This post reflects my honest, personal opinion and experience with the product which may differ from yours. Product information courtesy of the sponsor. No monetary compensation was provided for this post.

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Review and Giveaway

Disclosure: I received sample products from Naturally Fresh and RedLetter for review. I received no other compensation. All opinions are my own.

I have to admit, I was a little wary about using all natural deodorant products. To be honest, I was concerned about smell. However, when I received my Naturally Fresh products in the mail, I was quite pleased.

There are a lot of positives about Naturally Fresh. Of course all the products are all natural. They are also #1 doctor recommended, great for sensitive skin and promotes breast cancer awareness.

“Our mission is to offer healthy, natural and safe deodorants”

I received three products to try and I loved them all!

One of the products was the Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal Roll-on. I'm not really a big fan of roll-ons, but I have to say I love this one! It actually keeps me dry and my underarms don't itch. This product retails for $3.99 and is available at Walmart and other selected retailers.

Some of the great pluses:
  • chamomile soothes and moisturizes shaved underarms
  • non-sticky, non-greasy texture like a luxurious skin lotion
  • large rollerball for easy application
I also received the Naturally Fresh Deodorant Spray Mist. This one I love. I have to be honest, my grandson's feet stink and I've found this is great to spray on his feet. It refreshes his feet and I don't have to worry about stinky feet. I also use the spray mist in his tennis shoes. This product retails for $3.99 and is available at Walmart and other great retailers.

Some of the great pluses:
  • 100% Natural ingredients
  • Our most gentle formula
I suffer for dry, cracked lips and was happy when I was sent MoistStic Natural Lip Protection. This great lip balm keeps my lips moist and soft. This product retails for $2.59 which isn't a bad price for great lip protection and available at Kroger/Fred Meyer, Amazon.com, Target.com and Vitamin Cottage.

Some of the great pluses:
  • Soothes, smooths and heals dry lips and preserves healthy skin
  • Provides a protective layer from the drying effects of the sun, altitude and cold weather

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal is offering my readers a chance to try all three products. All you have to do is enter on the Rafflecopter below. Also, be sure to stop by their FB page for Freebie Friday where fans can win a prize every week! And be sure to check them out on Twitter.

#HAWMC Day 6- Dear Fibromyalgia

Monday, April 8, 2013

HAWMC Day 6: Prompt

Write a letter to an older you (tell us what age you’re writing to!). What do you want to ask yourself? What lesson do you want to make sure you remember?

OR

Write a letter to your condition – what do you want to get off your chest?

Dear Fibromyalgia,

It all started when I was 15. I kissed the wrong boy and caught Mono. I didn't think much about it until almost 40 years later my body is riddled with pain. Why do you have to exist? Why do you have to take a once healthy body and turn it into something ugly and unnatural?

I don't understand how you can even be a part of me? All I did was what any 15 year old girl would do. I kissed a boy and now I have to kiss my life away  and live in constant agony.

It's not fair what you have done to me. Yes, I do have good days, but mostly bad. Today, I gave my husband the wrong medicine because I was in a brain fog.

I don't like you. In fact, I detest you!

Without love,

Debra

April Is Sjogren's Syndrome Awareness Month

Saturday, April 6, 2013

About Sjögren's Syndrome :

Sjögren’s is a chronic autoimmune disease in which people’s white blood cells attack their moisture-producing glands. Today, as many as four million Americans are living with this disease.

Although the hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and dry mouth, Sjögren’s may also cause dysfunction of other organs such as the kidneys, gastrointestinal system, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, and the central nervous system. Patients may also experience extreme fatigue and joint pain and have a higher risk of developing lymphoma.

With upwards of 4,000,000 Americans suffering from Sjögren’s, it is one of the most prevalent autoimmune disorders. Nine out of 10 patients are women.

About half of the time Sjögren’s occurs alone, and the other half it occurs in the presence of another autoimmune connective tissue disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or scleroderma. When Sjögren’s occurs alone, it is referred to as “Primary Sjögren’s.” When it occurs with another connective tissue disease, it is referred to as “Secondary Sjögren’s.”

All instances of Sjögren’s are systemic, affecting the entire body. Symptoms may remain steady, worsen, or, uncommonly, go into remission. While some people experience mild discomfort, others suffer debilitating symptoms that greatly impair their functioning. Early diagnosis and proper treatment are important — they may prevent serious complications and greatly improve a patient’s quality of life.

Since symptoms of Sjögren’s mimic other conditions and diseases, Sjögren’s can often be overlooked or misdiagnosed. On average, it takes nearly seven years to receive a diagnosis of Sjögren’s. Patients need to remember to be pro-active in talking with their physicians and dentists about their symptoms and potential treatment options.

Since the disease was first identified in 1933 by Dr. Henrik Sjögren, it has been proven to affect virtually every racial and ethnic group. General awareness about Sjögren’s is still lacking and increased professional awareness is needed to help expedite new diagnoses and treatment options.

Newly diagnosed patients may find the video Sjögren’s Syndrome: A Place To Begin to be a helpful resource when starting your education on this debilitating disease:

When a person is diagnosed with Sjögren’s, they often don't know where to begin. This program will introduce you to three Sjögren’s patients who will share their journey with you. In addition, you will hear from Sjögren’s experts about the causes, treatments and manifestations of Sjögren’s. From there, we hope you will have a place to begin as you develop a partnership and treatment plan with your physician.

Primary Sjogren's syndrome occurs in patients who have no other rheumatic disease. Secondary Sjogren's syndrome develops in patients who do have another rheumatic disease, usually lupus or rheumatoid arthritis.

Sjogren's syndrome is a treatable condition. With effective treatment, most Sjogren's syndrome patients can live well. Much more is now known about Sjogren's syndrome than when it was discovered by Henrik Sjogren in the early 20th century. Here are 10 things you should know about Sjogren's syndrome.

#HAWMC Day 5- A World Without Pain

Friday, April 5, 2013

Today’s Prompts:
“If I could do anything as a Health Activist…” Think big today! Money/ time/ physical limitations are no longer an issue. What is your biggest goal that is now possible?
What’s your one, three, or five year plan for your Health Activism?

If I had no limitations without the burden of fibromyalgia, I could enjoy the little things that life brings. I could play with my grandson and enjoy my time with him.

What are my future plans if I had no pain, I could play with my great grandchildren. I would love to live in a world where fibromyalgia did not exist. It would be great to wake up in the morning without pain and go to sleep at night without pain.

#HAWMC Fibromyalgia Day 4

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Today’s prompt was recommended by Lori of http://misdiagnosedme.wordpress.com/

Today’s Prompt:
Create a “care page” – a list of your best resources that someone who is newly diagnosed could go to when starting to advocate for themselves or a loved one. Remember to include sites that lead to successful self-advocacy!

When I first learned I had fibromyalgia, I trolled the Internet for all the resources I could find. There is a lot of great info out there if you suffer from fibromyalgia, but these are the ones that helped me.

#HAWMC Day 3-"Wordless Wednesday"!

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

It's day 3 of the #HAWMC and the first "Wordless Wednesday" Today's prompt: Post a picture that symbolizes your condition and your experiences.

#HAWMC Day 2 Introduce Yourself

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Day 2 and I'm behind already...

The prompt today is:
Introduce your condition(s) to other Health Activists.
What are 5 things you want them to know about your condition/your activism?

Who am I? I am a 52 year old daughter, sister, wife, mom, and grandma. I was a  very strong person(mind and body) but has my fibromyalgia took hold my body grew weak and weary. I write about my heath, some days with humor other days with horror. I struggle with this debilitating disease that took away my joy and replaced sadness all around.. I am the face of fibromyalgia!

Share links to 3-5 of your old posts (or posts from other Health Activists!) that you think
will help the newly diagnosed.

THE HEALTH ACTIVIST WRITER'S MONTH CHALLENGE 2013 Day 1 (April 1) – Getting Started!...#HAWMC

Monday, April 1, 2013

This is my 2nd year participating in HAWMC. Not much as changed in my life since I first began writing about my heath.

For day 1 the prompt is Day 1 (April 1) – Getting Started!
Why you write –
tell us a little bit about why you write about your health online and what got you started.
Why HAWMC?
This is our third year of the Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge –
why did you get involved this year? Are you a newbie to #HAWMC or a veteran?

So I will tell you why I write. I didn't start out writing about my health, it happened by accident. I'm a writer and decided to start blogging a few years ago. I was also going through menopause and needed a release outlet. I started this blog High Heels and Hot Flashes to add a little humor to menopause, but somewhere along the way my health got involved. I wanted to share with my readers the the ups and downs of fibromyalgia. There are days when I can't write or just want to turn off, but by sharing my story on this blog and online I can help other's who are going through the ups and downs.

Why did I choose HAWMC? There is no one reason. I love the sharing with others and the message of HAWMC.
