The Fast Metabolism Diet Review #FastMetabolismDiet

Friday, May 24, 2013
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks and The Fast Metabolism Diet. I received The Fast Metabolism Diet Book for this review. All opinions are mine.
I hate "diets" and when I received a copy of Haylie Pomroy's new book The Fast Metabolism Diet to try for 28 days, I have to admit I was worried this would be another failure.

Haylie Pomroy has helped thousands of clients lose up to 20 pounds in just four weeks -all through the fat-burning power of food. Haylie says "This is not a book for first-time dieters. This is a book for last-time dieters." Hailed as "the metabolism whisperer," Haylie reminds us that food is not the enemy, it's the rehab needed to rev-up your sluggish, broken-down metabolism and turn your body into a fat-burning furnace.

The The Fast Metabolism Diet is broken down into  three Phases which I actually liked and could follow with no problems or setbacks.

PHASE ONE (Monday-Tuesday): Lots of carbs and fruits;
PHASE TWO (Wednesday-Thursday): Lots of proteins and veggies;
PHASE THREE (Friday-Saturday-Sunday): All of the above, plus healthy fats and oils.

I followed the plan for twenty-eight days and although I didn't lose a significant amount of weight, The Fast Metabolism Diet helped get me on the right track to successful weight loss.

You can find out more about Haylie and The Fast Metabolism Diet by clicking on the links below:

Neoteric Diabetic Product Review

Thursday, May 23, 2013
Disclosure: I received Neoteric Diabetic products for the sponsor for this review. All opinions are my own.

When you're a diabetic, your health is so important. One of the major aspects to caring for yourself is taking care of your skin. My husband is a Type II diabetic and some of concerns is his scalp and feet.

His scalp flakes and his feet are terrible. I'm always on the look-out for products to help reduce his flaky scalp and his nasty looking feet. I discovered a great company called Neoeric Cosmetics when I reviewed one of their products awhile back. When I was approached and asked to review their diabetic products of course I jumped on the band wagon!

My husband received full size products of Neoteric Diabetic Shampoo and Scalp Care and Advanced Healing Cream. He immediately began using both daily and within two days saw a dramatic improvement in his scalp and feet. His scalp was less flaky and his feet were less red and ugly.

Both products are now a staple in his diabetic routine. I give both A+.

Smile Brilliant Review

Wednesday, May 22, 2013
Disclosure: I received a product in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own and I received no other compensation.

Everyone wants white teeth and doesn't want to spend a fortune to get them! Well, Smile Brilliant is the solution to your problem.

I've always suffered from yellowing teeth, mostly due to the aging process and have always wanted to use a teeth whitening system, but couldn't afford it. When I got the chance to review Smile Brilliant, I couldn't wait!

I received the LED Teeth Whitening System which is really easy to use: no mess, twenty-minutes a day; that's it and you're ready to go.

Since I've been using my system, I've noticed a big improvement and my teeth are whiter. The LED Teeth Whitening System is normally $69.95, but you can purchase the entire system for only $39.95 which saves you 43%!

Here are some great things about the Smile Brilliant LED Teeth Whitening System I love:

  • High intensity Ultra-Blue LED activating light (batteries included)
  • Protective trays(top & bottom)
  • 4ml Professional whitening gel pen (22% concentration)
  • 30 Day money back guarantee
  • Life-time tray replacement warranty

If you've been thinking about teeth whitening, then be sure to check out Smile Brilliant for all your teeth whitening needs.

Mia Mariu Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack Review

Tuesday, May 21, 2013
I'd had never heard of Mia Mariu until I started blogging and was excited when I got chosen to review their Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack because I had read great things about Mia Mariu.

When my Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack arrived, I couldn't wait to start using the products. Ever since I turned 50, I've been concerned about skin care and with Mia Mariu Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack I no longer have to worry if I'm using the proper products for my skin.

Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack contains a Refreshing Foaming Gel Cleanser, an Anti-Aging Brightening Serum and an Anti-Aging Eye Treatment.  I love the Refreshing Foaming Gel Cleanser. It makes my face feel clean and refreshed.  I love the effervescent bubbles and the way they make my skin wake up.

Both the Anti-Aging Brightening Serum and Eye Treatment has made a big difference I can see when I look in the mirror.

If your skin is tired then wake it up with Mia Mariu Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack. Your face will thank you.

You can follow Mia Mariu on FB, Twitter, Google+, You Tube, or Pinterest.

The Refreshing Foaming Cleanser’s silky formula will leave your skin soft, hydrated and refreshed.  Sea Kelp and Aloe makes this a fabulous super-gentle cleanser for all skin types.  Our Anti-Aging Brightening Serum is a must-have age-defying serum that targets sun spots and pigmentation while brightening overall clarity.  This serum contains anti-aging peptides, skin-brightening botanicals, Aloe and Vitamin B5 Complex.  The Anti-Aging Eye Treatment is a lightweight formula that quickly absorbs into the skin, instantly awakening tired-looking eyes.  The Eye Treatment contains antioxidants like Japanese Green Tea, Aloe and Vitamins B5 & E to help reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes.

Mia Mariu Rejuvenate Your Skin Anti-Aging Pack is available for $87 and well worth it.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Blog For Mental Health 2013

Thursday, May 16, 2013

It is once again time for me to blog about mental health. Because this week is National Women's Health Week, I always choose to blog about mental health. This is my second year to participate and it's a great venue to spread the word about mental illness.

The rules are pretty simple:

1.) Take the pledge by copying and pasting the following into a post featuring “Blog for Mental Health 2013″.
I pledge my commitment to the Blog For Mental Health 2013 Project.  I will blog about mental health topics not only for myself, but for others.  By displaying this badge, I show my pride, dedication, and acceptance for mental health.  I use this to promote mental health education in the struggle to erase stigma.
2.) Link back to the person who pledged you.
You can consider this an open pledge, so feel free to link to A Canvas Of The Minds and this post!
3.) Write a short biography of your mental health, and what this means to you.
This year mental health has become a staple in my life. A few months ago I found out my youngest daughter was dying from AIDS. She moved back home and is on hospice. The toll of her illness has brought about many mental illness challenges for myself. I have become depressed to the point I find myself not wanting to get out of bed. I have gotten to the point where I just don't care. I feel overwhelmed and overburdened.
4.) Pledge five others, and be sure to let them know!
My Perfectly Imbalanced Life – Mental Health Blog Day…Shine the light
Motherhood Unadorned – Just Keep Swimming
Good Girl Gone Redneck –  Mental Health Blog Day #mhblogday
As mentioned above, if you happen upon this without being pledged, we still pledge you.  Feel free to take the pledge!  Promote awareness!

Women & HIV/AIDS Infographic

National Women's Health Week, May 12 - 18 and  HealthForHer.org has put together an infographic detailing how the disease has affected women around the world. Some of the most compelling details covered include:

- AIDS diagnoses among women have increased more than 300% since 1985.
- Louisiana, Florida & New York have the highest rates of AIDS diagnoses among adult and adolescent females in the US.
- The vast majority of women diagnosed with HIV contracted the disease through heterosexual encounters.

Mental Health Month Blog Day-#mhblogday

Wednesday, May 15, 2013
I'm Blogging for Mental Health.

Today is the fourth annual Mental Health Month Blog Day and my second year to participate. Mental health  affects millions of women, myself included.

Mental health: it’s the way your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect your life. Having good mental health helps you make better decisions and deal with daily stressors at home, at work, and in your family. Sometimes, you may need help from a professional to take care of your mental health, especially if feelings or problems seem beyond your control.
Congress designated May as Mental Health Month in 1949 to illustrate the importance of mental health issues to the overall health and well-being of American citizens. Each year, bloggers will join APA  for a Mental Health Month Blog Day to educate the public about mental health, decrease stigma about mental illness, and discuss strategies for making lasting lifestyle and behavior changes that promote overall health and wellness.
You can help people recognize the importance of good mental health, overcome stigma, and seek out professional mental health services when needed? Learn More

Since last year my mental health has gone South. Let me explain. My mental health has always teetered between sane and insane, but recently I reached a breaking point. My youngest daughter is dying and I'm responsible for her full-time care and the stress is overwhelming. There are many days when I want to stay in bed with the covers over my head. There are days I want to ignore my daughter. There are days I feel guilty. There are days when I want to walk away.

My depression has worsened as well as my anxiety. Sometimes I feel very alone in a gigantic fishbowl called life. It seems I'm swimming nowhere fast. I sometimes forget that I'm not alone.

It's important for women to know there is help out there.

If you feel like you're swimming nowhere fast, don't be ashamed to ask for help. You're not alone! There is help out there.

Some facts about mental health to get you started:
  • One in four Americans experiences a mental health disorder every year, according to the National Institutes of Mental Health.
  • Chronic stress can affect both our physical and psychological well-being by causing a variety of problems including anxiety, insomnia, muscle painhigh blood pressure and a weakened immune system.
  • Research published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior (Vol. 41, No. 2) finds that 68 percent of Americans do not want someone with a mental illness marrying into their family and 58 percent do not want people with mental illness in their workplaces.
If you want to participate in today's Mental Health Month Blog Day participating is easy:
  1. Publish a blog post that incorporates mental health’s importance. Tell people why it’s important to you and why it should be important to everyone.
  2. Include a link back to yourmindyourbody.org or one of its own blog posts.
  3. Add the “I’m blogging for mental health 2013″ badge to your blog post. Add the badge by copying and pasting the HTML code.
  4. Share your blog and any blogs you discover or our round-up on posts on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Pinterest, or any social networking sites you are on. Use #mhblogday as the tag.
  5. Keep returning to Your Mind, Your Body throughout the day to see what new blogs have joined the party.
  6. Find new blogs to read and bloggers to follow! Comment on their posts. Share their links. Spread the word about mental health awareness!

Be sure to check out all the great Mental Health Month Blog Day posts.

National Women's Checkup Day: May 13, 2013

Monday, May 13, 2013

What is National Women's Checkup Day?

National Women's Checkup Day is a nationwide effort, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health, to:
  • Encourage women to call and visit health care professionals to schedule and receive checkups; and
  • Promote regular checkups as vital to the early detection of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, mental health illnesses, sexually transmitted infections, and other conditions.

When is National Women's Checkup Day?

The 11th annual National Women's Checkup Day will be Monday, May 13, 2013, during National Women's Health Week.

Why is it important for women to participate in this effort?

Regular checkups provide a number of benefits to women:
  • Screening tests, such as mammograms and Pap tests, can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. Some women need certain screening tests earlier or more often than other women do. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, women can now receive these types of  preventive screenings without co-pays.
  • Screenings and routine care can help women lower their risks of many health conditions, including heart disease.

How can women participate in this important event?

There are several ways for women to participate in National Women's Checkup Day:
  • Contacting their current health care professionals to schedule checkups or visiting to get important screenings on National Women's Checkup Day.
  • Discussing with their health care professionals which screenings and tests are right for them and when and how often they should have them.
  • Learning which screening and immunizations they need and at what age to get them.
  • Reviewing the list of 22 preventive services for women covered under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Taking the Checkup Day Pledge and pledging to schedule at least one preventive health screening during May 2013.

I took the pledge. did you?

International ME/CFS and National FM Awareness Day-May 12th

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Today is International ME/CFS & FM Awareness Day!

What is it?

ME stands for myalgic encephalomyelitis. CFS stands for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. FM is the short form for fibromyalgia.

The month of May is ME/CFS and FM Awareness Month.

The idea originated with Tom Hennessy, the founder of RESCIND (Repeal Existing Stereotypes about Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases). Mr. Hennessy designated May 12 as the International Awareness Day for the spectrum of illnesses he called Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND).

May 12 was chosen as it corresponded with the birthdate of Florence Nightingale, the English army nurse who inspired the founding of the International Red Cross.

Mission
To promote May 12th as International Awareness day and encourage people to join events or create their
own and to share awareness ideas for May 12th and throughout the year.

Nightingale became chronically ill in her mid-thirties with an ME/CFS-like illness. She spent the last 50 years of her life virtually bedridden. Despite suffering from an incapacitating illness, she managed to found the world’s first School of Nursing.

This determined woman of the late 19th century is a symbol of inspiration and hope to sufferers of these chronic disorders in the late 20th century.

If you're a sufferer like me, then you know all too well what it's like and why it's important to be aware and share awareness with others.

Get involved!

Like International ME/CFS & FM Awareness Day on FB

Join twitter

Today please wear blue and save a blue ribbon to your computer to help raise awareness for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or purple for Fibromyalgia.

Dedicate your blog to the cause!

National Women's Health Week May 12-18 2013

Today begins National Women's Health Week. For the next week, I will share my thoughts on women's health issues. My main focus will be mental health, menopause, and autoimmune disease.

What is National Women's Health Week?

National Women's Health Week is a week long health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health. It brings together communities, businesses, government, health organizations, and other groups in an effort to promote women's health and its importance. It also empowers women to make their health a priority and encourages them to take the following five steps to improve their physical and mental health and lower their risks of certain diseases:
  • Visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings.
  • Get active.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Pay attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.
  • Avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking, not wearing a seatbelt or bicycle helmet, and texting while driving.

Why celebrate National Women's Health Week?

We all have a role to play in women's health. Women often serve as caregivers for their families, putting the needs of their spouses, partners, children, and parents before their own. As a result, women's health and well-being becomes secondary. As a community, we have a responsibility to support the important women we know and do everything we can to help them take steps for longer, healthier, happier lives.

When is National Women's Health Week?

The 14th annual National Women's Health Week kicks off on Mother's Day, May 12, 2013, and is celebrated until May 18, 2013. National Women's Checkup Day is Monday, May 13, 2013.

How is National Women's Health Week celebrated?

The nationwide observance is celebrated across America in families, communities, neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties, hospitals, health centers, businesses, schools, places of worship, recreation centers, and online. Anyone who wants to raise awareness about women's health can celebrate. Organizations large and small hold events, such as free screenings and health fairs, give out educational materials, issue proclamations, conduct media outreach, spread the word through social media, and more.
For more information about National Women's Health Week, visit womenshealth.gov/nwhw/ or call 800-994-9662

Alpha Hydrox 10% Gycolic AHA Enhanced Lotion and Giveaway

Disclosure: I received a product from Neoteric Cosmetics in exchange for this review. However, all opinions are my own.

At 52, I decided I must face my face. I looked and felt older than my age. I didn't like looking at myself in the mirror until I tried Alpha Hydrox 10% Enhanced Lotion.

When I received my bottle in the mail, I started using it right away and within days, I could see a difference. My face looked younger and felt younger. I have to be honest, this is my favorite anti-aging product. It's the only one I will use and the price is affordable. For only $10.99 you get a 6 oz. bottle that works better than a $100 bottle.

There are several things I love about Alpha Hydrox 10% Enhanced Lotion. It helps prevents and reduces wrinkles, for dry skin types, effective pH 4, enriched with moisturizers and Vitamin E, softens fine lines & wrinkles, improves elasticity & evens tone, and contains no fragrance or paraben.

Alpha Hydrox 10%  Glycolic AHA Enhanced Lotion is proven to significantly reduce and delay the onset of fine lines, wrinkles, forehead creases, crows' feet, laugh lines and more. With 10% Glycolic AHA at an effective pH 4, Alpha Hydrox Enhanced Lotion effectively and safely lifts dead cells from the skin's surface, revitalizing & helping restore younger, healthy, more radiant-looking skin. Renews moisture, refines texture, improves elasticity and skin tone.

Right now, you can score a great deal on Alpha Hydrox 10% Gycolic AHA Enhanced Lotion. BUY 2 - GET 1 FREE or you can win a 6 oz. bottle of  Alpha Hydrox 10% Gycolic AHA Enhanced Lotion by going here. Either way, you come out a winner with  Alpha Hydrox 10% Gycolic AHA Enhanced Lotion  and wrinkles disappear.
