Every Valentine's Day for the last 36 years has been WONDERFUL! My husband never fails to make it special for me. He usually walks in with a huge bouquet of long-stemmed red roses, See's chocolates (custom packed with ONLY my favorites!), and the most meaningful gift of all; a BEAUTIFUL Valentine's Day card. In addition, we have gone out to nice dinners in fancy restaurants, he has bought me lovely jewelry, and we even got an overnight sitter when the kids were younger and spent the night in a very nice hotel. I can't remember a "bad" V-day!

Last year, my boyfriend and I used to drive to work together in the morning and he popped in a CD on Valentine's Day. It was a recording of him playing and singing "Ho Hey" (with his arm in a sling from shoulder surgery, no less!). I am NOT a mushy person, but it made me cry :)

Honestly, I can't remember specific gifts and if I could, they probably would not be all that impressive. But what stands out is that for thirty-five years, my husband has been here, right here, with me. I'm no prize, but he has never wavered and I've felt loved and cherished. He is such a blessing and a gift that I think I'll just put a bow on his noggin on Valentine's Day and call it all good.

My daughter was only 4, and she thought she would make a picture for me. I was busy doing laundry and tidying up, and I went to check on her. During my brief time transferring laundry, she had taken refrigerator items and drew the most precious picture on my kitchen wall with mayonnaise, chocolate cake frosting, and jam. She said, "Mommy, I wanted to cook you a present!" It was so precious that I couldn't even be frustrated. I hated telling her that we had to clean it up later that day. It was definitely the most thoughtful work of art from a toddler! :)
