Disclosure:This is a compensated post for Breast Cancer Awareness sponsored by Gold Sun Marketing.

Once again it's time to THINK PINK and support Breast Cancer Awareness!

Did you know that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women?  That’s why pink pumpkins are back again to fight breast cancer.

What is the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation?
  • The Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation was created to aid in the fight against breast cancer.
  • To be part of the foundation, pumpkin growers commit to give a percentage of proceeds from every pink pumpkin they sell to the foundation.
  • Growers purchase their seed and plant their pumpkins.
  • Once they harvest and sell their pumpkins, they donate a percentage of their sales to the foundation.
Why pink pumpkins?

The foundation was created in the fall of 2011, with our first growing season being 2012. We found ourselves with this beautiful pink pumpkin and it made sense to align with growers and give back to breast cancer research. We were really interested in giving the proceeds to organizations that would put the highest percentage of that money into actual research.

Why is Breast Cancer Awareness important to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation?
Unfortunately, breast cancer is one of those diseases that has affected so many people, directly and indirectly. As members of the produce industry, we want to be a part of the cure, in any way we can, and by giving funds to these wonderful researchers year after year, we hope we can get closer to a cure.

Decorate with pink pumpkins and raise awareness for breast cancer!

The Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation has partnered with pumpkin farm owners and growers across the country who have agreed to give back a percentage of their pink pumpkin sales to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation.  Funds will then be donated, through a grant process, to reputable breast cancer research organization that spends most of their money on actual research, something that is very important to us. For the past two years, they have donated about $60,000 to two such researchers, in 2012 to the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute and in 2013 to Rush Medical Center.  You can help raise breast cancer awareness by participating in their national campaign, “Pink Pumpkins in Your Home – Let’s Unite Against Breast Cancer” which is designed to encourage everyone to join the fight against breast cancer by purchasing these pink pumpkins from their list of farm owners and growers and placing them in your homes as part of your annual Halloween and fall d├ęcor.

Not only can you participate in the "Pink Pumpkins in Your Home", this year The Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation has teamed up with Bake it Happen™, a national baking campaign that raises money for breast cancer research.

The campaign is unique in that no one is asked to personally raise money, run a race, or climb a mountain.  The concept of the Bake it Happen campaign is really quite simple and fun and anyone can participate: just bake and share the baked item with the people in your/your readers’ lives throughout the month of October 2014.  For every recipe shared, $2 will be donated to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation.

Here’s how it works:
  • Go to the Bake it Happen website to get access to one or two of the celebrated recipes (the recipes are from a mother and cook who unfortunately died of breast cancer—the inspiration for the popular food blog: My Judy the Foodie.
  • Participants are encouraged to bake the recipe and share it with anyone in their lives throughout the month of October.
  • Every time a recipe is baked/shared, participants take a photo and either upload it to Facebook (or social media of their choice) or email it with the hashtag #bakeithappen.
  • Each time a picture is taken and shared, an anonymous donor will donate money to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation, through Bake It Happen!

Turn October PINK with pink pumpkins and yummy goodies!
